I just got back from a little vacation to Washington DC. If you haven't made the trip to our capital yet then I encourage you to do so soon. There is a heck of a lot to see and do. I did some exploring for great barbecue but came up empty. The sign below had me encouraged but the joint had shut down years ago.
My favorite museum was the National Portrait gallery. We spent most of our time exploring the different Smithsonian museums. The museums are funded by the taxes you already pay and as a result have free admission. The Presidential Portraits on the first floor are cool as heck. On the third floor a portrait that surprised the heck out of me was the one of Pete Rose!
I am a HUGE Pete Rose fan and it was a treat to walk around the corner and see him getting ready to grind out another single! The fact that the painting is by Andy Warhol is a massive bonus. I can't imagine two more different people and the idea that they worked together to create this work of art makes me delighted!
Right before I started typing this I headed over to the museum's website to get the right link for this picture. When I searched I found that there are two other pictures of Pete Rose at the museum!

I am proud that the Smithsonian has Pete Rose art on display. Pete is a national treasure and the Smithsonian is smart enough to realize that...even if the Hall of Fame isn't.
